Online withdrawal rights in 2026: what the law requires and how Withdrawal Button helps

📅 October 2026   ·   ⏱ 8 min read

Buying online should be straightforward. Exercising the right of withdrawal, where it applies, should be straightforward too.

What changes in 2026?

Directive (EU) 2023/2673 introduces an electronic withdrawal function for distance contracts concluded through an online interface where the right of withdrawal exists. The relevant requirements apply from 19 June 2026. The aim is to make withdrawal clear and easy to initiate.

What does the law require?

The withdrawal function should remain prominently and easily accessible during the applicable withdrawal period. It must clearly identify its purpose, allow the consumer and contract to be identified, provide a separate confirmation step and send an acknowledgement on a durable medium without undue delay, including the content and date and time of the request.

Meet Withdrawal Button

Adapta tu Web developed Withdrawal Button to help online shops offer this process and organise incoming requests. There is a free WordPress and WooCommerce plugin, a Pro version with additional management features and a separate PrestaShop solution.

What does the free version offer?

EU2673 Withdrawal Button Lite provides a basic withdrawal workflow linked to WooCommerce orders. It supports registered customers and guest purchasers, order identification, configurable time periods and an optional withdrawal reason. Review the current WordPress.org listing for exact requirements and features.

What does Pro add?

Pro offers additional documentation and traceability features, including PDF acknowledgements, SHA-256 integrity hashes, documentation related to the Annex I.B withdrawal model, communication tracking, management automations, extra controls and extended multilingual options. A hash is a technical integrity measure, not legal certification.

How does it compare with alternatives?

Other plugins also provide withdrawal buttons, forms, notifications or administration features. Withdrawal Button’s value lies in combining a free entry point, WooCommerce integration, guest access, Pro documentation and traceability, multilingual capabilities and a PrestaShop option. Compare products against your own operational needs rather than assuming any tool is universally best.

Accessibility matters

A withdrawal button is ineffective if it cannot be found or operated with a keyboard or screen reader. Test control labels, focus order, errors and confirmation messages in the actual shop, including its theme and customisations.

Which version should you choose?

Lite is a starting point for a basic WooCommerce workflow. Pro suits businesses needing more documentation, tracking and automation. PrestaShop merchants can consider the platform-specific solution. No plugin replaces legal review of the shop’s contracts and policies.

About Blind Reader

Blind Reader is an accessibility assistant that analyzes each page and narrates its purpose, key sections and recommended actions — designed for screen reader users.

Compatible page builders: Works with any WordPress theme or builder: Divi, Elementor, Gutenberg, WPBakery, Avada and others. It reads the real content of the page, not the builder markup.

Does it interfere with your content? No. Blind Reader adds an accessible panel above the page but does not modify, hide or alter any existing content or styles on your site.

How does it work? It analyzes the page structure (headings, links, forms, landmarks) and generates a functional summary. The guide and goals help navigate without having to scan the whole page.

Keyboard shortcut: Press Alt + G to jump directly to the first goal.
